Our Story

After more than a decade of serving the Amarillo Community in various capacities, Rachel and Bryleigh recognized a significant gap in access to nutrition services in the Texas Panhandle. Not only was there limited access, but there was also a lack of a welcoming environment where children and families could be prioritized in care. In April 2024, Rachel and Bryleigh took a bold step of faith, embracing the mission that God had set before them: to serve their community in a fresh way while establishing a previously nonexistent service in the market. From this commitment to serve, Panhandle Nutrition Therapy was created to fulfill the essential need for nutrition services in Amarillo and its neighboring areas. PHNT experienced rapid growth in 2024, allowing us to hire additional dietitians to continue providing valuable nutrition services to those in need!

A Child of God, a Wife, a Mom, a Dietitian. Rachel obtained her undergraduate degree from Oklahoma State University, a masters degree from Texas Woman’s University and clinical training from OU Health Sciences. Rachel practices with the belief that patients should be at the center of their care and that shared decision making is the only way to create care plans that can be effective. Rachel’s office is a judgement free place where she takes a real life perspective with each client. While Rachel serves her community as a rural health dietitian, versed in many different areas of nutrition, she has special training in preconception/fertility nutrition, pregnancy nutrition, postpartum and infancy nutrition as well as pediatric chronic disease management. Rachel is a certified nutrition support clinician and regularly works with patients who need nutrition support via enteral or parenteral nutrition in the hospital and outpatient space. Rachel’s goal is to not only be a part of your journey, but a partner in your journey.

Samantha Rodriguez MS, RD, LD

Growing up in a Mexican household I heard two conflicting statements - make sure to eat everything on your plate, but don’t overeat or else you will be labeled as ‘chubby’ I used to believe a healthy diet meant giving up beloved Mexican staples like tortillas, beans, and rice. However, as a first-generation Latina dietitian, I am here to tell you that all foods fit. My educational journey and professional experience shaped my guiding principle that all foods fit.

My goal is to work alongside you to find a diet that best fits your nutritional needs and lifestyle, removing the fear of food. I graduated from Texas A&M with my undergraduate degree and from Texas Tech with my master’s degree. My education and professional experience allow me to work with all walks of life - from infants to seniors. I look forward to working with you!

Clarissa Orona RD, LD

What sparked my interest in nutrition was my family history and wanting to be proactive with my health. Having many family members with diabetes, heart disease and obesity, I knew I wanted to help make a difference.  Diabetes and weight management is what I’m most passionate about. I pride myself in being able to listen and support my patients through their journey, helping them better understand how nutrition affects their health while also creating an environment where food and diet changes can be fun and exciting!

Practice Style: My approach to nutrition care is rooted in balance, compassion, and practicality. I believe that food is meant to nourish both the body and the mind—providing the energy we need to live fully while also supporting a positive, healthy relationship with eating. Through personalized, evidence-based guidance, I help clients learn how to fuel their bodies in a way that supports their goals and feels sustainable in real life. At the same time, I work with them to build trust in their hunger cues, break free from restrictive mindsets, and find joy in eating. My goal is to empower each person to feel confident in their choices and connected to what their body truly needs.
