Happy Registered Dietitian Day!

Why a registered dietitian?

Registered dietitians have years of schooling and thousands of clinical hours, along with a credentialing exam behind their name (I see you RD (registered dietitian)). As a registered dietitian we have spent countless hours learning about medical terms, pathophysiology of disease, medications, lab values, counseling skills, etc. and how nutritional intake affects all of these things in our bodies/lives.

This is why, as a registered dietitian, we practice in a mindset that sees more than the plate in front of you. We see the food that shaped your childhood, the diagnosis you are facing, the labs that show us what your body is doing, and the relationship that you have with food and your body, or the relationships that gathering around food has brought you.

In research, 57% of patients felt an emotional toll lifted, 37% felt physically better, 64% felt in better control of their condition and 43% reported positive changes in their health indicators when going through nutrition counseling with a registered dietitian (Schiller, et. Al.).

At Panhandle Nutrition Therapy, we believe YOU are more than a number; more than a number on a scale, a number of calories or carbohydrate or protein you have been told to consume, more than that week you triumphed over all your cravings or the week that you gave into every single craving that you had.

YOU are a person and finding the root cause of you cravings, your weight changes, your labs, you thoughts, your habits, etc. is where the power truly comes. And helping YOU learn to trust yourself, your body and your knowledge while also fueling it with positive, nutritious intake is a our goal.

Let’s make these strides together; let’s learn, explore, experiment, strive for MORE TOGETHER.
